Because sometimes kids look up to those singers as role models and when they are doing drugs, or doing bad stuff I don’t think parents want their kids turning into crazy people like gangsters. Comment:I am reading this book “We beat the street” and it’s about the three boys who live the Dayton Street Projects. there names are Sampson and he is 6 years old, Rameck and he is 9 years old,George and he is 8 years old. They are all friends, they live in the “Ghetto” [thats what most people call the Projects]. George is having a problem because he has good grades and it is hard to fit in with his boys if he has good grades. Sampson has problem because he broke his foot. Comment: Recently I have read the book Crazy by Han Nolan. She has written and published a total of 11 books and she has won a National book award for young people's literature.
In the book crazy a young teenage boy named Jason was harshly affected by a childhood crisis that caused him to have voices in his head who he talks to a lot. Jason doesn't have many friends and he tries to be invisible but that year at high school he gets noticed.
The authors message is that you shouldn't judge books by their cover meaning you shouldn't judge people because you never know what's going on outside of school or what they have been through. For example Jason's mom died and people started judging him because of that but they didn't know that he really didn't have loving people in his life.
The book crazy is a terrific novel in which people can learn from Diffrent perspectives and learn to accept peoples opinions. Also how important it is to keep your temper cool especially in school. But to improve this book I think that she should've explained more about the Greek connections
I would recommend this book to young adults ages 12-15.

Book Review of Monster by Walter Dean Myers
A true story about Steve Harmon
Monster is a non fiction chapter book about the trial of a 16 year old boy who is accused of committing a felony murder. Monster is a very interesting book to me because it is the only book I’ve ever read where it is being written while it is happening.
The main characters are Steve, Miss O’Brien, his lawyer, Bobo and King. During the trial, Steve was trying to prove his innocence. Steve was on jail because King and Bobo said he helped them commit the robbery and murder of the man who owned the drugstore by going in the store to make sure the police were not inside. Steve was facing 25 years to life in prison if the jury had found him guilty.
Miss O’Brien told Steve to act as if he did not know Bobo and King so that he could seem innocent and make them appear as liars trying to blame him for something he didn’t do. Steve is trying to prove that did not play a role in the murder by saying he did lie to judge because he said he didn’t know the murderers, King and Bobo. However, King and Bobo tried to prove that all three of them were guilty of the crime so that they would get less time in jail. This is why the book is title Monster because the prosecutor called Steve and his associates, King and Bobo, Monsters because they killed the store owner during the robbery.
My favorite part of Monster was when Steve tried to hug his lawyer and she turns and walks away. I like this part because then he asks himself what “did she see that made her turn him away.” I don’t understand why she turned him away because I didn’t think she saw Steve as a monster. Another favorite part of the book was when Steve’s film teacher said “Steve was not a bad student he just loved to make films and really liked Steve, he’s a good kid.” I believe that 25 years in jail would not be fair to him because he is known for being a good kid who makes perfect films about his community.
I really enjoyed the book Monster because it teaches you that hanging out with certain people can get you caught up in illegal, dangerous, and serious crimes which can lead you to serious time in jail. Monster was an enjoyable book. There were many parts of the book that made me sad, especially the part when the police go to Steve’s home to arrest him. During that part of the book the police handcuffed Steve in front of his mother and then begins to drag him out of him home as his mother screams “you ain’t goin nowhere with my son and I’m not there.” I could feel his pain of not doing anything wrong but still getting in trouble for it.
The illustrations were very helpful because there were many different people talking throughout my book. Monster is a book for the kind of person who likes investigation, law, and crime books. This would be a great recommendation to young, teenage boys and girls who sometimes makes that wrong decisions.

People join gangs because they feel the need to like ‘let it out’.People also join gangs because of peer pressure, family deaths, or just for the pleasure of it. If you join a gang, its like you can't get out of it. Joining a gang is like trying to get rid of your childhood toy, you can never get rid of the memory fragments and you can’t get out of it. I also saw in the video that there were these people that joined a gang and wanted to get out of it but the gang members didn’t want others to find out about the gang, so the gang members beat them to death. Gang violence can happen anywhere even the bathroom! Not only do poor places have gangs rich places also have gangs. Some people don’t join gangs by choice. Sometimes people are forced to join and they are sometimes threatened. Other people join because they are emotionally hurt, sad, angry. People who join by choice are often confused or think they are doing the right thing. Kids sometimes think it’s cool to join gang or gangs are going to help them. But the truth is sometimes your own gang tries to kill you. One thing is for sure, gangs are never good.

Its problems you have if your life such as your parents in divorce. The kids have different feelings and so they do things such as getting in trouble in school or fighting. Usually this leads to the kids joining gangs. Its either the gang tells the kid to join or the kid decides to go in because whatever they do leads it to it. There is also family, school and environmental risk factors.

Comment:Gangs are horrible. And they just continue to get worse. Most violence is started over silly arguments. Such as just about a week ago a 14yo was shot and killed by another 14yo. They were arguing over a boy just a day ago. Then the one who lost the argument got her uncle to give her a gun and the next day the girl was dead. Violence like this needs to stop. Only we can do it.

Comment:I am reading this book “We beat the street” and it’s about the three boys who live the Dayton Street Projects. there names are Sampson and he is 6 years old, Rameck and he is 9 years old,George and he is 8 years old. They are all friends, they live in the “Ghetto” [thats what most people call the Projects]. George is having a problem because he has good grades and it is hard to fit in with his boys if he has good grades. Sampson has problem because he broke his foot. My opinion on gang violence is that it is horrible. people are getting shot over money and drugs. Comment: Recently I have read the book Crazy by Han Nolan. She has written and published a total of 11 books and she has won a National book award for young people's literature.
In the book crazy a young teenage boy named Jason was harshly affected by a childhood crisis that caused him to have voices in his head who he talks to a lot. Jason doesn't have many friends and he tries to be invisible but that year at high school he gets noticed.
The authors message is that you shouldn't judge books by their cover meaning you shouldn't judge people because you never know what's going on outside of school or what they have been through. For example Jason's mom died and people started judging him because of that but they didn't know that he really didn't have loving people in his life.
The book crazy is a terrific novel in which people can learn from Diffrent perspectives and learn to accept peoples opinions. Also how important it is to keep your temper cool especially in school. But to improve this book I think that she should've explained more about the Greek connections
I would recommend this book to young adults ages 12-15.

Book Review of Monster by Walter Dean Myers
A true story about Steve Harmon
Monster is a non fiction chapter book about the trial of a 16 year old boy who is accused of committing a felony murder. Monster is a very interesting book to me because it is the only book I’ve ever read where it is being written while it is happening.
The main characters are Steve, Miss O’Brien, his lawyer, Bobo and King. During the trial, Steve was trying to prove his innocence. Steve was on jail because King and Bobo said he helped them commit the robbery and murder of the man who owned the drugstore by going in the store to make sure the police were not inside. Steve was facing 25 years to life in prison if the jury had found him guilty.
Miss O’Brien told Steve to act as if he did not know Bobo and King so that he could seem innocent and make them appear as liars trying to blame him for something he didn’t do. Steve is trying to prove that did not play a role in the murder by saying he did lie to judge because he said he didn’t know the murderers, King and Bobo. However, King and Bobo tried to prove that all three of them were guilty of the crime so that they would get less time in jail. This is why the book is title Monster because the prosecutor called Steve and his associates, King and Bobo, Monsters because they killed the store owner during the robbery.
My favorite part of Monster was when Steve tried to hug his lawyer and she turns and walks away. I like this part because then he asks himself what “did she see that made her turn him away.” I don’t understand why she turned him away because I didn’t think she saw Steve as a monster. Another favorite part of the book was when Steve’s film teacher said “Steve was not a bad student he just loved to make films and really liked Steve, he’s a good kid.” I believe that 25 years in jail would not be fair to him because he is known for being a good kid who makes perfect films about his community.
I really enjoyed the book Monster because it teaches you that hanging out with certain people can get you caught up in illegal, dangerous, and serious crimes which can lead you to serious time in jail. Monster was an enjoyable book. There were many parts of the book that made me sad, especially the part when the police go to Steve’s home to arrest him. During that part of the book the police handcuffed Steve in front of his mother and then begins to drag him out of him home as his mother screams “you ain’t goin nowhere with my son and I’m not there.” I could feel his pain of not doing anything wrong but still getting in trouble for it.
The illustrations were very helpful because there were many different people talking throughout my book. Monster is a book for the kind of person who likes investigation, law, and crime books. This would be a great recommendation to young, teenage boys and girls who sometimes makes that wrong decisions.

People join gangs because they feel the need to like ‘let it out’.People also join gangs because of peer pressure, family deaths, or just for the pleasure of it. If you join a gang, its like you can't get out of it. Joining a gang is like trying to get rid of your childhood toy, you can never get rid of the memory fragments and you can’t get out of it. Sometimes people are forced to join and they are sometimes threatened. Other people join because they are emotionally hurt, sad, angry. People who join by choice are often confused or think they are doing the right thing. Kids sometimes think it’s cool to join gang or gangs are going to help them.
